Making Festive Pizza

Every now and then I get the urge to make something in the kitchen, and fresh Pizza is straight forward enough.

Prep Time: About 3 hours.

To be fair, the first 90 minutes or so is trying to locate stuff in the kitchen to cook with, like utensils, discovering the batteries have eroded and leaked in your electronic scales as you’ve not used them in 10 years, thus having to clean the scales out, find new batteries etc etc.  If I knew where everything was then it takes about 45 minutes to create the dough and let it prove, around 15-20 minutes to make the tomato sauce base, another 10-15 minutes prep time of the key ingredients, and 12-14 minutes cooking time, so allow for about 90 minutes to create this, or pick up your smart phone and order a pizza online which will usually be with you in 30 minutes or less!

Ingredients :-

Dough Base

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Yeast
  • 15g Butter
  • 300g Strong White Flour
  • 1 Table Spoon of Milk Powder
  • 210ml Warm Water
  • 1/2 Table Spoon of Sugar
  • 1/2 Table Spoon of Salt

Mix the ingredients and let the dough prove in a warm part of the kitchen, or if you have a bread maker then cheat and throw the lot in and select the dough program.

Once you have the dough ready, the rest of the ingredients are really down to you as to what you want on your Pizza, I’m going to make a tomato and onion base, the ingredients are as follows :-

Tomato Sauce Base

  • One Chopped Red Onion
  • Crushed Garlic Cloves
  • Olive Oil
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Oregano
  • Italian Mixed Herbs

Fry the Onion and Garlic Cloves in olive oil to soften the onion, then add freshly chopped tomato, oregano and Italian herbs, bring to the boil and then simmer for 5 minutes to reduce the tomato base.

Finally the toppings, in this case I chose a weird beardy tree hugging sandal wearing hippy type vegetarian topping (only kidding) and ham.

Chop Sweet Peppers, Cheddar Cheese and etc to suit taste.

Assemble the pizza and cook on 190 degrees for approx 12-14 minutes until golden brown, and enjoy!

Merry Christmas!
